We all experience overwhelming feelings such as sadness, anger, fear, loneliness, and anxiety at some point in life. It can be intimidating to talk about or deal with the feelings we try so hard to ignore/hide. While trusting a stranger with your innermost thoughts and fears can be frightening, talking about and working through the issues affecting us is often the first step toward living a more satisfying life.
I believe in building a genuine and collaborative relationship that instills hope and empowers clients through the therapeutic process. I value individual differences and work with clients by helping them develop reasonable and achievable goals, increase their self-awareness and gain insight, in turn creating growth and improving quality of life. I provide a safe, private, and non-judgmental environment for you to process life’s challenges and struggles, alter negative/destructive thought patterns, learn effective coping skills, as well as build better self-worth.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a foundational approach. CBT is an evidence-based modality that looks at our thoughts, behaviors, and actions. While CBT is the foundation of treatment provided, I do not neglect other therapeutic models. I use an integrative approach as needed. I am mindful of differences and work within the “world” of the client using various therapeutic interventions tailored to each individual.
I work with a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds and I have had experience working with a large variety of mental illnesses/diagnoses ranging from severe to the lesser severe (i.e. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and anxiety, to name a few.) I am currently seeing clients dealing with:

I offer individual and family therapy for those ranging in age from 11 to 50 years old. I accept multiple different insurance plans as well as private-pay. I also offer couples therapy, however, at a private pay rate only as most insurance plans do not cover this.
My background in counseling and psychotherapy enhances my ability to work with a variety of clients with a wide array of concerns. I am interested in your current needs, whether that is talking things over with a counselor and/or exploring past trauma in psychotherapy. Counseling addresses the current issues, while psychotherapy helps to resolve the past issues causing the current problem. Used individually or together, both work as part of laying the foundation for a satisfying future.
I started working in the mental health field in 2011 at an addiction and recovery treatment center that specialized in helping women who suffered from chemical dependency, poverty, and abuse. While that path was rewarding, I wanted to broaden my knowledge and skills in a different area of the mental health field. I began working at a psychiatric hospital providing therapy to children, adolescents, and their families. I enjoyed my years there, but it did not provide for the time needed to spend with patients one on one as I feel is most important. In 2015, I decided to start my own private practice, in addition to working at the hospital and as of 2017, I resigned from the hospital to pursue private practice full-time, a decision that has been the best yet.
Attending therapy can be a difficult decision, some worry about being judged by family or friends, some have had a negative experience in the past with therapy, some may not be ready just yet, some may fear opening up to a therapist. Whatever your hesitation is, don’t let fear hold you back in life. You have taken the first step by deciding to look into seeing a therapist. There are no miracle cures. The outcome depends largely on your willingness to engage in the therapeutic process. While I cannot promise that your circumstance will change, I can promise to support you and do what I can to help you through the difficulties you are dealing with.
